Records are released 72 years after they are taken. All US census dated from 1790 to 1940 are available to the public. There was a fire in 1921 which destroyed all but 6160 out of 63 million records from the 1890 census. Some of the 1800 * 1810 Census records were also destroyed int he same fire.Social Security Numbers began to be issued in 1935. Most deaths which occurred after 1936 are registered in the Social Security Death index. US Births and Death records are also recorded at the State level. The time when records started to be recorded varies by State.Marriage records are usually stored with the clerk of the town or county where the bride resided, but some very early ones may be housed in the state’s archives and more modern be found in the state’s Division of Vital Records. Sometimes marriage records were recorded and kept long before birth and death records began to be documented.If anyone else has any to add, please do!
